How it works

Grid overlay without Photoshop

Upload a map, choose your grid type, and dial in cell size and alignment. The preview updates live. When you are ready, download a single gridded PNG or a ZIP of print-ready tiles with overlap for taping pages together at the table.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add a grid to an existing battle map?

Upload your map image, pick square or hex (flat-top or pointy-top), and set the cell size in pixels. Use the offset controls to line the grid up with features already on the map. Download the full gridded PNG when it looks right.

Can I print a large battle map for in-person D&D?

Yes. Turn on printable tiles, choose paper size (US Letter or A4), DPI, and overlap. The tool splits your gridded map into pages you can print at 100% scale and tape together at the table.

Does my map get uploaded anywhere?

No. The Battle Map Grid tool runs entirely in your browser. Your image stays on your device and is never sent to Archivist servers.

What grid types are supported?

Square grids for classic D&D battle maps, plus flat-top and pointy-top hex grids for systems that use hex-based movement. Set how many feet or meters each cell represents for quick range reference.
